The Washington State Ferries (WSF) has
decided to continue operating the Southworth route through
Fauntleroy indefinitely and has proposed to erect an overhead passenger loading ramp the length of the dock. The Fauntleroy community Association
and the Fauntleroy Ferry Advisory Committee is addressing this
proposal and has invited WSF to conduct an open meeting for public
feedback. For more information contact Gary

On Nov. 17, 2008, Washington State
Ferries (WSF) presented their draft Long Range Plan to the
Legislative Joint Transportation Committee. The plan outlines
proposals for service, terminal development, vessel replacement and
other operational details to define the system as far as 2030.
Of importance to West Seattle is
their decision to continue operating the Southworth route through
Fauntleroy indefinitely instead of moving the route to Coleman dock
in downtown Seattle as previously proposed. Currently there are
about 600,000 vehicles yearly that funnel through West Seattle to
and from the Fauntleroy dock. Published growth figures indicate that
this figure will increase by 64% by the year 2020.
To be able to help manage that
growth at Fauntleroy, WSF proposes to expand the dock to allow
enough vehicle space for one complete boatload. In addition an
overhead passenger loading ramp is proposed to be erected the length
of the dock.
The Fauntleroy Community
Association and the Fauntleroy Ferry Advisory Committee is
addressing this proposal and has invited WSF to conduct an open
meeting for public feedback. This meeting is planned for Jan 21.
Information of the meeting will be
forwarded to the community prior to that date. The complete Long
Range Plan can bee found on the WSF site
