FAUNTLEROY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING - FAUNTLEROY SCHOOL
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2003 - 7 P.M.
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Bruce Butterfield, Martha Callard, Gary Dawson,
Kirk Hopkins, Vlad Oustimovitch, Lynn Sealey, Phil Sweetland and Martin
Westerman.
F.C.A. MEMBERS PRESENT: Linda Cox and Kathleen Dell Plain.
1. MINUTES: With the following correction, the minutes for October's
meeting were approved and can be posted on the website. The business
triangle is at 45th, Brace Point and Wildwood Streets. As a trial, the DOT
will paint stripes for diagonal parking on the Brace Point segment of the
triangle. That one block section will be one way east bound.
2. TREASURER'S REPORT: Vicki sent a copy of the November report. The
amount of $8,360.01 is in the main account and $2,298.40 is in the Cove
Park account.
3. MEMBERSHIP: Phil had nothing new to report.
4. FAUNTLEROY FALL FESTIVAL: Martin thanked those present for their
support of the Fall Festival. It was a success with about 1,000 attendees.
That number of people is just about right, he added, in order to keep the
local flavor. The F.F.F. organizers will have a recap meeting with a
document to follow. Donations totaled $2,326.09 and expenses to date are
$1,345.69 with a few more outstanding receipts that need to be paid.
5. FERRY: Gary reported that the renovation of Colman Dock at Pier 52
will begin soon. Also, F.C.A. will probably host the South Sound Ferry
Advisory Committee meeting in February, 2004. When Gary learns of the
date, he will reserve Fauntleroy Hall. These meetings are open to the
public.
6. NEIGHBORS NEWSLETTER: Martha announced that the newsletter is nearly
ready for printing and that there will be a mailing get-together.
7. FCA WEBSITE: The website has updated information on the Fall
Festival, the salmon return, Christmas ships, the Flex Car at Morgan
Junction, and the Farmers' Market. Because Chris Nack keeps our website is
current, it is a useful tool with links to other community activities.
8. ANTI-CRIME: Kirk said that the police precinct on Delridge is a
positive addition to West Seattle. Kirk will resume going to the
Anti-Crime meetings this month.
9. SOUTHWEST DISTRICT COUNCIL: Vlad explained that there are 13
district councils and that the Department of Neighborhoods connects them
all. Matching funds for neighborhood projects were cut $1/2 million but
that same amount was spent on surveys. Yvonne Sanchez, the director of the
Department of Neighborhoods, has $400,000 in her budget for race
relations. Vlad reported that Seattle Public Utilities has a comprehensive
plan for city wide drainage. At Sea Street near Carkeek Park, $850,000 was
spent on a swale drainage, which unfortunately removed all the parking.
10. E-MAIL OUTREACH: Chris Nack visited Lynn Sealey and added the
computer capability to send messages to F.C.A. members with the return
name/address as "Fauntleroy Neighbors."
11. WINTER F.C.A. MEETING: It was decided to have a January meeting and
invite the three new City Council members plus Irene Stewart. Also on the
agenda should be a synopsis of the ferry issues. Phil will book the
Fauntleroy Church for January 28th. The second choice is January 22nd, and
the third date choice would be January 20th. If the City Council
individuals cannot come, it was decided to have a monorail discussion or
Vlad could talk and inform the audience about the SWDC. Lynn agreed to
write the invitation letter to the new city council members.
12. DECEMBER GATHERING: Linda Cox proposed that the next Board meeting
be at her house to coincide with the Christmas Ship visit to Lowman Beach.
Lynn will help coordinate.
13. COVE PARK/STENCH: Gary said that Ware Lantz is owed about $50 for
the supplies necessary for sealing the canoe in Cove Park. Regarding the
"stench," Jill Hansen told Lynn that she would come to an F.C.A.
board meeting in the spring.
14. WELCOME BASKETS: Gary knows of two new young families in Fauntleroy
and he wondered whether they had received welcome baskets. Discussion
ensued, and it was decided that we need a coordinator for this effort.
With the next e-mail meeting announcement, Lynn will ask for help.
Periodically, new member brochures are placed at the Bakery and Church,
but someone should oversee this as well.
The next F.C.A. Board meeting will be on Tuesday, December 9th at 7 pm.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm Respectfully submitted, Lynn
Sealey F.C.A. Secretary
