Fauntleroy Community Association Minutes

September 8, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 by President Bruce Butterfield. Introductions were made and the minutes of the previous meeting were accepted. In attendance were: Bruce Butterfield, Phil Sweetland, Kim Petram, Gordon Wiehler, Vlad Oustimovitch, Martha Callard, Brent Spaker, and Kathleen Dellplain of the FCA. Also in attendance were Patrick Sand of the West Seattle Blog and Clive Noonan, Mark Johnson, Doug Anderson, Teresa Squillace, Rhonda O’Leary, and Dennis O’Leary of the South Brace Point Community Association.

Kim Petram reports that the Fauntleroy Fall Festival is on Schedule. The Festival will be October 18th from 2 to 6 pm. There will be new projects and activities. The FCA will have a table and distribute balloons. So far Gordon and Sheila Wiehler, Gary and Ann Dawson, and Vicki Schmitz-Block have volunteered for shifts at the FFF. The secretary will co-ordinate volunteers. The $10.00 Living Lightly membership option will be promoted.

The Fauntleroy School Sale is official. Kevin Woolery is calling for an infrastructure board. Tenants of the School building are concerned about possible rent increases. Negotiations are still ongoing for portions of the playground.

Martha Callard reports that most of the residents of the 252 homes south of the 47th Ave SW speed humps are slowing down.

The pump station at Fauntleroy cove has been breaking down. The smell has been unbearable, and sewage has been spilled in the cove. Seattle Utilities is working on this. Plans are still pending for the new pump station.

The motion to offer sponsorships in the newsletter was made by Brent Spaker, seconded and passed by the board. Martha will visit Endoline Joes to see if they would like to buy an ad.

Mark Johnson of the South Brace Point Community Association shared some of their concerns. One of their main concerns is access. A formerly open foot trail has been blocked. They are meeting with Phil, Bruce and Vlad to help organize. Doodle dot com will be helpful to schedule meetings.

Vlad Oustimovitch reports there is still money in the Seattle Street Fund. Gordon Wiehler will coordinate with Leon to resubmit the proposals for a sidewalk at Cloverdale and a sidewalk on 45th SW near Brace Point Way.

Vlad also reports from the SW District council that utility rates will be going up and the multi-family code regarding townhouses is being revised.

Treasurer’s report – Phil Sweetland reports that spending has been light so far this year. The Fauntleroy Fall Festival has $3700. plus the $500. from the Fauntleroy Community Assn. There will be new collection boxes at the festival. The watershed council received a grant to bring it back to positive cash flow. There is no change in the Cove Park fund and the Historical Project is still selling Fauntleroy story DVDs.

King 5 is conducting a Best of the NW poll. All are urged to vote for Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes, catering, the Original Bakery and Canine Casa, dog grooming.

Kathleen Dellplain tried to recruit walkers for an upcoming Breast Cancer Walk. It’s October 4th. Volunteers can sign up at www.KingCountyStrides.org.

Bruce mentioned a Dinner Auction for the Chief Sealth music program November 12th.

Next meeting will be October 13th.
