Sweetland, Martha Callard, Vicki Schmitz, David Haggerty, Kathleen

REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES
July minutes were evaluated and approved as is.
NEIGHBORS NEWSLETTER
Martha Callard reported that her goal was to have the newsletter out by
Labor Day in order to advertise and promote the Fall Festival and
dinner/dance fundraiser in a timely manner. Further discussion led to the
decision to use the August mailing for the formal dinner/dance fundraiser
invitations and hold off on the next newsletter publication until the end
of September or the beginning of October. It was decided that the deadline
for newsletter information would be September 20. This will allow for
inclusion of the Ferry Advisory Meeting, Watershed Council information
plus promotion of the Fall Festival.
FAUNTLEROY FALL FESTIVAL
David Haggerty reported that the planning is moving forward. Financial
resources are being evaluated. The committee is looking at new pledges and
commitments/donations meeting the financial needs. They are in process of
solidifying participants and placement of activities. Financial reckoning
is to be verified regarding the FCA funds related to the Fall Festival
monies. Vicki Schmitz provided a list of the financial breakdown of funds
from 2003. This was evaluated by the board and a review of the checking
account confirmed money withdrawn for 2003 vendors/expenses. Bruce
Butterfield proposed adopting the financial numbers presented plus those
added via the checking account review to use as figures for the budget for
the 2004 Fall Festival. It was agreed that Phil Sweetland would review the
specific numbers once again for clarification and verification. Those
final numbers confirmed by Phil would then be forwarded to Bruce
Butterfield and David Haggerty prior to the next committee meeting on
August 17.
TREASURERS REPORT
Vicki Schmitz reports that the Cove Park balance is $2,258.24 and the FCA
balance is $7,725.17.
FALL FESTIVAL FUNDRAISER
Lynn Olson reported on the standing of the dinner/dance fundraiser. She
and Marty Westerman are to confirm with the Port of Seattle on what the
exact printing costs will be. A mock-up of the invitation was presented.
It will include a note by Bruce Butterfield explaining the reasoning
behind a fundraiser for the Fall Festival and an explanation of the
Festival event. The invitation will also include a return envelope and a
Fall Festival flyer. Bulk mailing issues were discussed which Lynn and
Bruce will evaluate. A vote was taken to clarify the final design of the
invitation. Ticket outlets will be The Original Bakery, Endolyne Joe's,
Tuxedos 'n Tennis Shoes plus board member sales. Lynn also reports that a
log will be created to accept payments. This is to be worked out with the
businesses regarding the easiest way to document payments and ticket
sales.
TRAFFIC AND CROSSWALK UPDATE
Kim Petram reports that a meeting with the City of Seattle Department of
Transportation acting City Traffic Engineer Brian Kemper will be held on
August 16. Further discussion will be deferred until the next board
meeting.
SKATEBOARD PARK
Phil Sweetland reported on an encounter with a young skateboarder using
the landscaped wall by the fish ladder park. This person said he has
written letters to the city asking for a local skateboarding facility.
Phil reports he feels he is put in a position of having to protect the
local fish ladder park from inappropriate use and needs assistance from
the Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs in maintaining the fish ladder
park space and minimizing damage. It was discussed that the FCA could
support local youth in petitioning the city for a local skateboard park in
the form of letters and endorsements if the youth and their parents
organized a working group.
FAUNTLEROY MONORAIL EXTENSION
Secondary to Chuck Sawyers inability to attend this months meeting, this
discussion was deferred to the next scheduled board meeting.
MOCA FEST
The Morgan Street Junction festival will be August 15, 2004. It is to be
located in the parking lot behind the Corner Inn. The FCA has been given
table space for promotion. Volunteers are needed to staff the table. Vicki
Schmitz volunteered to do so.
NEW BUSINESS
Kim Petram reported that the local West Seattle non-profit Northwest Hope
and Healing is doing their annual half-marathon Saturday August 14, 2004.
This group provides support to local West Seattle women diagnosed with
breast cancer. Vicki Schmitz moved to donate $50 to their fundraiser which
was seconded by Bruce Butterfield.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
