Meeting Minutes
Fauntleroy Community Association Minutes
July 8, 2008
Before the meeting was called to order there was a celebration of the
engagement of Bruce Butterfield and Irene Stewart. Best Wishes for a happy
life together!
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 by President Bruce Butterfield.
In attendance were: Vicki Schmitz-Block, Barbara Startz, Rory Denovan and
Dorsol Plants of the Highland Park Action Committee, Phil Sweetland, Gordon
Wiehler, Jeni Gauthier, Kim Petram, Martha Callard, Kelly Egan, Peter
Buckley, Nikki Lloyd, Pat Wenger, Lynn Olson, and Kathleen Dellplain.
The minutes of the June meeting were approved as corrected.
Kim Petram reports that the Fall Festival preparations are on schedule.
Jeni Gauthier gave a presentation on the procedure to seek 501 (c)(3) tax
exempt status for The Fauntleroy Community Association. A benefit would be
the tax deductible status for FCA donations. Jeni was authorized to continue
with the exploratory work and to consult with Gary Dawson and Judy Pickins
about any previous filing.
Vicki Schmitz-Block reports that the Fauntleroy School Negotiations are
proceeding. There will be an update meeting soon.
There was some discussion about whether there should be a designated
contact person for the West Seattle Blog. Any board member may respond to
Blog inquiries until further notice.
Lynn Olson reports that there were no volunteers for the mailing
committee. The next mailing will be in September, we will all pitch in.
Phil Sweetland presented the Fauntleroy Community Association’s annual
budget. It was approved for the 2008 year.
Nikki Lloyd and Pat Wenger sought FCA help slowing traffic on 100th and
along Marine View Drive, another car missed the curve on 100th and launched
their parked cars down onto Marine View Drive. Seattle DOT is slow to
respond.
Barbara Startz led a discussion on the problem of raccoons in this area.
The raccoons are increasing and becoming more aggressive. Their feces carry
parasites and they are becoming a public health issue. Neither Animal
Control, Public Health, nor Fish and Game will take the trapped animals.
Shooting is not an option either. Some FCA members also are experiencing
problems with infestations of raccoons or rodents. Several remedies were
offered that have been partly successful.
Rory Denovan of the Highland Park Action Committee gave an update of
actions to prevent a jail building in Highland Park. They are opposed to
both Highland Park sites. Placing a jail in a residential neighborhood will
require a change in the land use code. They also raised the question of
funding. FCA support to encourage the City to renegotiate their lease with
the county jail was requested. A letter to the City should be sent soon.
There will be no August meeting.
The meeting was adjorned at 9:30
