FAUNTLEROY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING
FAUNTLEROY SCHOOL
TUESDAY, JUNE 11, 2002 - 7 P.M.
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Gary Dawson, Bruce Butterfield, Lynn
Sealey, Phil Sweetland, and Vicki Schmitz.
F.C.A. STAFF MEMBER PRESENT: Lynn Olson.
F.C.A. MEMBER PRESENT: Chris Nack
GUEST PRESENT: Stan Lock, West Seattle Neighborhood Service
Center
1. MINUTES: The minutes of May's meeting were approved.
2. TREASURER'S REPORT: Vicki reported that the FCA corporation
non-profit report was filed with the IRS. Signature cards were taken to
the bank with Bruce's, Vicki's, and Lynn Sealey's signatures. The bank
balance is $7,380. Some additional information needs transferring from Kim
to Vicki's computer.
3. NATURE NIGHT REIMBURSEMENT: Lynn O. reported that the grant
she wrote for Nature Night means a $700 reimbursement to FCA. She will
call Kathy Minsch about it.
4. FERRY ADVISORY COMMITTEE: Gary said there is a South Sound
Ferry Advisory Committee meeting on June 27th downtown, which Bruce and
Chuck Sawyer probably will attend. There was some discussion about the
random car searches at ferry docks. The extra police personnel that are
required for this may be federally funded.
5. PARKS: Regarding the Barton Pump Station and installation of
an emergency electrical generator at Cove Park, Lynn O. said that Ware
Lanz wanted to coordinate those efforts.
6. WEST SEATTLE COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERSHIP: The next meeting
is June 18th at Arts West, 4711 California Ave SW. These meetings are open
to everyone.
7. WEB SITE: Chris shared a multiple page report that gave such
details as the number of "hits" our www.fauntleroy.net website
received in May: 2330! The report also listed the individual files that
were visited.
8. SOUTHWEST DISTRICT COUNCIL: Stan reported on several items
discussed at the meeting held last week.
A. Arsenic and Lead Contamination: Dr. Alonzo Plough, the Director of
Public Health, told those present that the levels found in some areas of
King County do not pose a health risk. For more information, see the
website at: www.metrokc.gov/health/tsp/arseniclead.htm B. Fire Department:
A SFD representative told of the community service tasks often requested,
like pumping out flooded basements. C. Roxbury Safeway Site: On this site
may be constructed a 113 unit apartment building for low-income housing.
Bruce will write a short letter to the developer in support of the
concept. D. Lincoln Park Annex P-Patch: The matching grant, which Vlad
Oustimovich worked on with MoCA, was recommended for approval at an amount
of $70,000. It should be official by the beginning of July. E. Other
Matching Grants Approved: The Alki Bath House remodel and creation of
Whale Tail Park near the Alki grade school. F. Southwest Precinct: On June
21st, there will be a "50% Completion" barbecue from noon to 2
P.M. at the 2300 SW Webster St. site (at Delridge). G. Seattle City Light
Properties: Stan handed out a list of several properties that are on the
"surplus" list. There will be a public meeting about these on
July 17 at 7 P.M. at Arts West. Regarding one of the properties at 4520 SW
Brace Pt. Drive, Gary suggested that the neighbors on 45th and 46th be
notified. Perhaps they could band together to create a "pocket
park."
9. FCA NEWSLETTER: Bruce read a resignation letter from Judy
Pickens. It was agreed that the newsletters have been superior (widely
praised) and that the content, style and format have had Judy's signature.
There was considerable discussion about what our needs would be in the
future and how to fill Judy's shoes. Those present concurred that a hard
copy newsletter of some sort should continue, as there are many elderly
people in the neighborhood who don't have computers. Also, it is good to
have City Council members receiving a hard copy as well as Washington
State Ferry officials. Vicki will ask people in her neighborhood to see if
anyone might be interested in editing our FCA newsletter. In the meantime,
Chris and Lynn O. will work to put together a one-page letter that would
be sent in July. Several topics were fielded.
10. FCA MEMBERSHIP: Phil presented some additional details on
the "Access" software program he has developed for tracking
members, both old and new. In July, Phil, Vicki and Lynn S. will get
together to figure out how to get new member information disseminated
properly, and how Board members might access it. On a related topic, Lynn
O. suggested we have a budget so that we know how much revenue membership
is providing versus our fixed expenses.
11. AUGUST ARTS AND NATURE FESTIVAL: Nancy Whitlock is again
organizing this festival to be held at Camp Long in August. It was
approved to donate $125 from FCA.
12. FALL FESTIVAL: The "Y," the Church, and Tuxedos
and Tennis Shoes will collaborate to put on a festival to be held Sunday,
October 20th. Lynn O. will act as liaison and inform them about city grant
monies that are available for such enterprises.
13. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AUCTION AND CRUISE: This fun event will
happen on August 16th. See Bruce Butterfield for tickets.
14. NEXT MEETING: It was agreed that there would be an August
meeting, but no July meeting. Thus, the next meeting is Tuesday, August
13th.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynn B. Sealey F.C.A. Secretary LBSea@attbi.com
