Fauntleroy Community Association Minutes
June 10, 2008
President Bruce Butterfield called the meeting to order at 7:00. In
attendance were Martha Callard, Sherry Richardson, Kim Petram, Phil
Sweetland, Gary Dawson, Vicki Schmitz-Block, Vlad Oustimovitch, Ann Dunbar,
Lynn Olson, and Kathleen Dellplain. The minutes from the May meeting were
approved.
Vicki, Ann and Kim send reminders to lapsed FCA members with copies of
the annual report and personal notes. The response has been very good. A few
households have chosen the lifetime membership option.
Fauntleroy School Update – Vicki Schmitz-Block reports that the closing
date on the purchase of the Fauntleroy School has been moved to the future
pending negotiations on the purchase price. A historic designation for the
Fauntleroy School Building is being sought. Fauntleroy residents are urged
to submit their memories of Fauntleroy School. Legislative support of
retaining surplus schools for community use is high. Frank Chopp and Joe
McDermott have expressed support. A question was raised about splitting the
property; the Fauntleroy Community Association opposes division of the
Fauntleroy School property. It was moved and seconded that The Fauntleroy
Community Association support the purchase of the entire Fauntleroy School
Property. The resolution passed.

Lynn Olson is organizing the creation of a mailing committee. Mailing
parties can be held at various local businesses. She has the names of some
volunteer help and members are encouraged to recruit additional members for
this important task.
Kim Petram reports that planning for the Fall Festival in on schedule.
They are also investigating a 501 C3 * designation for the organization.

The FCA executive committee will meet Friday to prepare the annual
budget. A FCA contribution to the Fall Festival will be in the budget.
Sherry Richardson sought FCA support to encourage vehicles in the ferry
line to shut off their engines while they are waiting. She is seeking
signage along Fauntleroy to remind commuters to turn off their engines. In
the spirit of gas conservation and air quality, FCA voted to support
Sherry’s effort.
Vlad Oustimovitch reports from the SW Dist Council – The way finding
signage has been approved and the project is going forward. Examples of the
signs are on the West Seattle Blog. The City of Seattle is planning to build
a new jail. Two of the sites are in the Highland Park area of West Seattle.
Both are in suburban areas far from the courthouse, and near homes. It was
moved and seconded that we send a letter to the city and county
administration requesting that they seek sites closer to courts and existing
services.
Phil Sweetland, treasurer reports that the Fauntleroy Documentary project
is on schedule.
Ferry Advisory Committee – Gary Dawson reports that the DOT is working on
a funding source for new ferry boats and a long range plan for routes and
docks and terminals. Ridership on the Southworth route is down 17%.
Green Tide – Phil Sweetland reports that no permit will be required from
the Army Corps of Engineers to pump the sea lettuce out of Fauntleroy cove.
Other department permits are still pending. The pumping is planned for
August or September from the Brace Point Drive street end.
The meeting was adjorned at 9:00.
