TOPICS

Neighbors Newsletter Martha Callard reported on the impending publication of the summer newsletter. The labels should be provided by the 23 of June by Phil Sweetland. Information to be included was discussed including updates regarding the WSF route coordination and long range planning, pedestrian safety issues along Fauntleroy Way including referral to the FCA web site for the letter sent to the city DOT and council members, brainstorming regarding topics for the Presidents Corner. Coverage also will include the lead article regarding Cove Park and the Annual meeting report. Martha expressed her concern regarding the complexity and hours involved related to the technical and production aspects of the production of the newsletter. Possible solutions to this issue were discussed.

Traffic and Crosswalk Update Kim Petram reported on the status of the pedestrian safety issues on Fauntleroy Way. A formal letter has been mailed to Megan Hoyt at S-DOT as well as the mayor, council members, and the director of S-DOT informing the city that the FCA is not accepting of the solutions proposed by the city and requesting further action regarding our solutions. The FCA is still awaiting a response but is prepared to sponsor a community meeting regarding these safety issues with the city and interested community members.

Future Party and Fundraiser Lynn Olson opened with a discussion regarding the enjoyable aspects of belonging to the Fauntleroy community. She pointed out that fundraising has been limited with the FCA as our programs are usually free and geared towards families and children. A suggestion is to provide and enjoyable evening event for adults at the Hall at Fauntleroy to raise money for the Fall Festival and the FCA general fund. A gathering of about 150 people would be the goal and would cost approximately $60 per person. A discussion was held as to who would come, first time event issues, how much money is needed for the FCA versus the Fall Festival, what type of entertainment would attract people and how to advertise. Lynn will refer back to David Hagerty regarding details of cost, entertainment and theme. A committee should be formed to formulate a plan. Late September is suggested as an appropriate time, which would allow for promotion of the Fall Festival. An idea was floated that the FCA would pay for the entertainment. Ferry Advisory Committee The next committee meeting will be held at the Hall at Fauntleroy on Tuesday June 15. The possible long-term options were discussed including keeping ferry service at the status quo, moving all service downtown, alternating routes depending on peak flows, alternating some service to downtown. The FCA perspective is that any traffic that could be shifted to downtown would be potentially beneficial.

Treasurers Report Vicki Schmitz reported by e-mail that the Cove Park fund is at $2,258.24, FCA checking account is at $8,882.82, Fall Festival $800 approximately. She reports that she and Phil Sweetland are working on a financial recap regarding the Fall Festival and will have a full accounting soon.

Department of Neighborhoods A new office site has been established within the Junction neighborhood.

Consultant Report Lynn Olsen brought up whether the FCA should have a table at the church parking lot sale, which is scheduled for July 31. This could provide promotion for the FCA, encourage new membership, and promote the Fall Festival as well as the potential FCA fundraiser. Also, Kim Suyama has agreed to host a thank you party for Lynn Sealy at her home. Date to be announced for this cocktail party. Further discussion of an appropriate gift was held.

New Business A thank you letter is to be drafted for Steve Amidon with the S.W. Precinct SPD. He facilitated a new brochure just published entitled "Feel The Need To Speed?". This will be handed out to all Vashon/Southworth ferry users reminding them of traffic safety laws. There will be a press conference at the Fauntleroy ferry dock at 3p.m. June 16 to promote this new publication.

Bruce Butterfield announced an event available to the FCA called Megawat that is hosting a gathering of neighborhood councils. An invitation was extended to members to attend.

Martha Callard announced that the annual Nature Consortium solicitation arrived. It was voted that the FCA would contribute $125. Bruce and Martha will confirm that this is the usual amount donated by the FCA.

Phil Sweetland reported that Judy Pickens is working on a grant proposal regarding the restoration of Fauntleroy creek. FCA's 501C4 will be the fiscal agent for grant writing accounting and processes.
