Fauntleroy Community Association Minutes

May 11, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 by President Bruce Butterfield. In attendance were board members; Martha Callard, Phil Sweetland, Gary Dawson, Vlad Oustimovitch, Kim Petram, Vicki Schmitz-Block, Brent Spraker, Martin Westerman, and Kathleen Dellplain. Also in attendance were; David Haggerty, Teresa Squillace, Amanda Lee, Patrick Sand, and Lynn Olson. Introductions were made and the minutes of the April meeting were approved.

On June third there will be a celebration for acquiring the Fauntleroy School building with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The whole community is invited to attend. An e-vite will go out and, it will be posted on Facebook.

Gary Dawson attended a neighborhood crime watch meeting. A house on Fauntleroy Way has become a problem as a center of neighborhood thefts. Seattle Neighborhood group and SPD are advising and helping.

Judy Pickins will edit the Newsletter while Martha is away. The Combined Sewer Overflow report and Fall Festival should be in future issues.

Vlad Oustimovitch reports that Mayor McGinn attended the last SW District Council meeting. The townhouse code was discussed. Piecemealing is still ok, and the presenting architects and developers want more flexibility on parking requirements and higher density rounding up.

Phil Sweetland reports net income for the treasurary is about $4000.00. The fundraiser for the Fall Festival raised about $800.00. A complete report was sent by e-mail.

Gary Dawson reports from the Ferry Advisory Committee that a new Ferry will be on line soon.

Bruce and Amanda Lee gave an update on the Murray/Lowman Beach CSO project. There is some objection to the location of the tank for that project and the comment period has been extended to June 19. There will also be an open house at Gatewood School to explain the project to local residents. The Fauntleroy/Barton CSO project should not be held up by the Lowman Beach residents.

A letter has been drafted to King County Executive Dow Constantine supporting the CSO project for Fauntleroy/Barton. The overflow retention should help reduce pollution from runoff going into Fauntleroy Cove, and FCA supports that. We wish the project to go ahead.

Teresa Squillace gave a report on the south Brace Point community effort to reopen their trail. There are issues of easement, prescriptive easement, and who owns the right of way.

Volunteers – Martha, Vicki, and Kim will contact Fauntleroy Community residents to thank them for volunteering and find their interests. An e-mail will be sent inviting them to a potluck June 13th. All board members are encouraged to participate and welcome all volunteers.

Marty Westerman requests that tools be donated to Sustainable West Seattle. Sustainable West Seattle needs tools for their tool bank. Please donate any unneeded tools to the tool bank.

Kim Petram reports that Mountains to Sound will open a location at 36th and Alaska. Their mission is to create ways for kids to get to the mountains in the winter.

Alki will have a community celebration Sunday September 12th.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00
