FAUNTLEROY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING
FAUNTLEROY SCHOOL
TUESDAY, APRIL 13, 2004 - 7 P.M.
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Bruce Butterfield, Martha Callard, Gary Dawson,
Vlad Oustimovitch, and Phil Sweetland.
F.C.A. MEMBERS PRESENT: Kathleen Dellplain, Renee Graham, David
Haggerty and Kim Petram.
1. MINUTES: The minutes for March's meeting were approved and can be
posted on the website.
2. ANNUAL REPORT: The Annual Report has been completed and will be
available at the General Meeting.
3. FERRY: Gary was unable to attend the South Sound Ferry Advisory
Committee meeting on March 16th. No decision has yet been made regarding
ferry food vendors. He added that potential food service employees are
meeting with the Union to see if they need and want to join the Union.
4. NEWSLETTER: Martha plans to put out the next newsletter on June
30th. One item she will include is information about the new sewage pump
stations that will be installed at Cove Park and at Lowman Beach.
5. TREASURER'S REPORT: Vicki Schmitz-Block sent the report. $10,166.82
is in the F.C.A. account, and $2,298.40 in the Cove Park account. Bruce
requested a breakdown between the F.C.A operations and the Fall Festival
Funds.
6. CRIME: No report.
7. WEBSITE: Vlad had a concern about a website detail and will contact
Chris Nack about the statement: "If one needs information about the
F.C.A., contact our members." The clarification should read to
contact our "Board" members to that it doesn't appear that the
F.C.A. has only eleven members.
8. SOUTHWEST DISTRICT COUNCIL: Vlad reported on the April 7th meeting.
A. Richard Conlin was present and talked about the Alaskan Way Viaduct
and is pushing for the "boulevard option." Richard is against
improving traffic flow to West Seattle and he also is against the Monorail
going all the way to Morgan Junction because of the 30% funds shortfall.
He believes the Monorail should end at the Alaska Junction. Vlad is
considering writing a letter to the West Seattle Herald about the impact
of ferry traffic on the West Seattle Bridge. The Monorail has spawned a
new community organization to be called the Avalon Community Association
B. Chuck Sawyer was present at the meeting and brought up F.C.A.'s desire
for a crosswalk on Fauntleroy Way at the upper Lincoln Park area. Richard
Conlin, who is on a DOT Committee, said he'd see what he could do for us.
C. Chuck also presented the problem of Pioneer Square bus delays going
south during the evening rush hour because cars are allowed to park on the
west side of First Avenue for a several block area. D. Vlad said a letter
from the SWDC was sent to City Council members and the Department of
Neighborhoods regarding "accessory dwelling unit" expansion,
which is a big issue for many people. E. The new Department of
Neighborhoods West Seattle office will be located somewhere on California
Avenue near the Alaska Junction. F. Peter Steinbrueck will attend the next
SWDC meeting on May 5th.
9. OUTREACH: Phil will talk with Lynn S. about continuing the e-mail
outreach list.
10. ENVIRONMENTAL: Kathleen Dellplain volunteered to be the
"contact person" for FCA e-mail and for USPS mail regarding the
Port of Seattle.
11. NATURE WALK: Kim Petram reported on the March 21st event and said
it was very successful. About 60 people came and made up 35 walk groups.
The City Naturalist, a former Harlem Globetrotter, was just great and he
has volunteered to do it again. The biggest problem, Kim said, was
advertising and getting the word out about the event. She took an
"exit poll" and found out that many came because of having seen
the sandwich boards on the sidewalks. Kim believes we should invest in
small political type signs to advertise it next year. She added that they
gave out "goody" bags that included brochures on the F.C.A. and
that these bags were well received. Gary and Ann Dawson took their
grandchildren who were visiting and they had a great time.
12. GENERAL MEETING: Further planning details (table placement,
tablecloths, staffing and the door prizes) were discussed for the General
Meeting to be held next Tuesday, April 20th. Martha passed out vendor
signs she made. Renee will "man" the Membership table and
Kathleen, the "Sign-In" table. Board members should arrive
between 5 and 5:30 pm.
The next F.C.A. Board meeting will be on Tuesday, May 11th at 7 pm.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, Dot Rohan, Acting Secretary and Lynn B. Sealey
F.C.A. Secretary www.fauntleroy.net
