Westerman.
F.C.A. MEMBERS PRESENT: Linda Cox, Kathleen Dellplain, Sheila Weaver
and Gordon Wiehler.
F.C.A. STAFF MEMBER PRESENT: Lynn Olson.
GUESTS PRESENT: Stan Lock (Department of Neighborhoods).
1. MINUTES: The minutes from March's meeting were approved, and will be
posted on the website.
2. TREASURER'S REPORT: Vicki reported a balance of $8,287.26. The Cove
Park account stands at $2,298.40.
3. FERRY ADVISORY COMMITTEE: For the benefit of the guests present,
Gary gave an overview of the makeup and function of the F.A.C. The next
scheduled meetings for the Executive Council of the F.A.C. are on April
24th and May 29. The South Sound meetings are on May 13th at Southworth
and then on August 12th at Fauntleroy. Gary was in the middle of telling
those present that Phil Olwell had returned to Fauntleroy as the dock
manager (Evening Shift) when Phil walked in. He is on duty from 11:30 am
until 9 pm Monday through Thursday and he encouraged us to telephone him
with any concerns: 1-800-84-FERRY. He responded to a question about the
orange boats following the ferries that have been seen by many Fauntleroy
residents. These are security boats and they are equipped with 50 caliber
machine guns. Phil added that members of the Washington State Patrol are
often on board many of the vessels.
4. SOUTHWEST DISTRICT COUNCIL: Vlad reported on the following issues
discussed at last week's SWDC meeting:
a. Speakers: There were two speakers: Dr. Jill Wakefield, who is the
new president of South Seattle Community College and City Council member,
Judy Nicastro, who is up for re-election next November. b. B&B's: A
couple in the Alki area would like to have a B&B in their home and are
petitioning the City Council to reverse the 1987 executive decision that
repealed the Seattle Land Use Code for such businesses. The original
measure had passed in 1986. c. Monorail: The SWDC Monorail subcommittee
meets every two weeks unless there is a formal Monorail meeting. 400 to
500 people were present at the last formal meeting. Vlad reported that
there is some interest in changing the route from California St. to
Fauntleroy Way, but still terminating at Morgan St. There has been much
discussion about parking availability. Judy Nicastro is pushing for the
city to change its policy of limiting the number of parking garages. A
public workshop that will address parking will be Saturday, April 26 at
the Washington State Convention and Trade Center from 8:30 am until 2 pm.
d. Police Precinct: May 2nd is the date for the new Police Precinct Open
House. Vlad is on the Precinct Advisory Committee, which will meet on a
regular basis with the precinct captain. e. Pea Patch: The Pea Patch
construction near the tennis courts on Fauntleroy across from the Texaco
Station will begin soon.
5. F.C.A. FILES/MASTER COPIES: It was decided that all formal documents
should be kept on Martha's and Lynn Sealey's computers in addition to Judy
Pickens' computer. These papers include: Membership forms, Annual reports,
Talent/Volunteer Sign-Up Forms, the Naturally Fauntleroy Brochure. Lynn S.
will contact Judy Pickens.
6. FAUNTLEROY TRAFFIC STEERING COMMITTEE: Trevor Partap, a Seattle
Department of Transportation Engineer, will attend a meeting on April 30
along with personnel from Washington State Ferries, Washington State
Patrol and leaders from the Traffic Steering Committee. Stan thought that
the items identified by the the committee would need prioritization and
that action on any one of them would depend on city resources. For
details, contact Phil Sweetland at 206-938-4203.
7. NEWSLETTER: Martha is working on the next newsletter and plans to
take it to the printer on Thursday, April 10, which means it would be back
on the 14th and ready for mailing on the 17th. Pat Schille will be
contacted to coordinate the mailing. There was some discussion on printing
companies and that perhaps Staples at Westwood Village has such a service.
Vicki will look into this and set up an account at Staples if necessary.
8. NATURE NIGHT: A volunteer is needed to coordinate this event. Lynn
O. reported that it costs $50 to reserve a shelter at Lincoln Part and
Chuck indicated that Beach Naturalists could be available. The optimum
weekend when there are extreme low tides is June 14/15. It will be
important to get flyers out to the Fauntleroy "Y" and to the
neighborhood schools.
9. ANNUAL MEETING: There was much discussion about the agenda for the
May 6th Annual Meeting. The meeting will begin at 6:15 pm; there will be
food items provided by our neighborhood restaurants.
10. PATHFINDER SCHOOL: Martin said that on April 28th, there will be a
fun benefit for the school at Arts West. It will be a song performance
titled "Long Yellow Crayon."
11. FAUNTLEROY CHILDREN'S CENTER: Lynn O. said that on April 19th, the
Center needs people to help plant trees.
12. NEXT MEETING: The next F.C.A. Board meeting will be on Tuesday, May
13th.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm Respectfully submitted, Lynn B.
