FAUNTLEROY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
BOARD BUSINESS MEETING
October 10, 2006
Prior to the meeting a lively discussion about the partying and vandalism
at Lincoln Park was started. Benjamin Kinlow from the Seattle Police
department was in attendance with some positive suggestions. He said the
gangs are well organized with lookouts and cell phones, so they are
generally gone by the time the police arrive. He recommended that residents
keep an incident log and take license numbers if possible. Officer Kinlow is
available to help neighbors organize for block watches. It was also
suggested that more events be organized for the park, so there is more
wholesome activity, such as dog walks, going on. Some of the street side
shrubbery could be trimmed too.
President Bruce Butterfield called the meeting to order. In attendance
were: Phil Sweetland, Vicky Schmitz-Block, Carolyn, Vlad Oustimovich, Ann
Dunbar, Leon Harmon, Benjamin Kinlow, and Kathleen Dellplain.
Fall Festival was to be held Sunday October 15, 2006. Members were
requested to man the Fauntleroy Community Association booth and help with
clean-up.
Mayor Greg Nichols has been invited to a Spring FCA meeting. The date
will be announced.
Ann Dunbar reported that 33 welcome bags have been sent out since summer.
Some people are joining FCA through these contacts. It’s good to meet your
new neighbors in addition to creating community spirit.
Vlad Oustimovitch reported that the speakers at the SW Dist council were
explaining Proposition One, and Initiative One, both are about tax increases
for transportation. They received a cold reception.
The treasury report was O.K.ed.
The Fauntleroy watershed seems to be in good shape. Despite the dry
weather, the water flow is good. There is concern about the return of the
salmon; no salmon have been sighted in the cove. The drumming for the salmon
will be the weekend of October 21.
Leon Harmon reported on his effort to improve the Cloverdale walk. Many
people use that path, but it is deteriorating and slippery when wet. Stan
Locke helped Leon with the forms but a neighborhood petition is needed. It
was suggested that we get Leon some “Membership Matters” brochures to pass
out to his neighbors while he collects signatures. It was also mentioned
that he contact John Eskaline with SDOT for a small grant and simple fund
application.
It looks like the lighted crosswalk at the new Kenyon Street entrance to
Lincoln Park is coming along. A pole should be set soon.
Members were urged to send letters and emails to the Seattle School Board
in regard to the Fauntleroy School. The Fauntleroy school building is
necessary as a community center and the Fauntleroy Children’s Center is very
important to keeping families in the neighborhood.
Next month’s meeting will be November 14th.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 by President Bruce Butterfield.
