Fauntleroy Community Association Minutes

February 10, 2009

The meeting of the Fauntleroy Community Association was called to order by President Bruce Butterfield at 7:00. In attendance were Phil Sweetland, Gary Dawson, Gordon Wiehler, Patrick Sand/WestSeattleBlog.com, Kim Petram, Ann Dunbar, Lynn Olson, Susan Lantz-Dey, Martin Westerman, Brent Spraker, Kevin Wooley, Bill Reiswig, Vlad Oustimovitch and Kathleen Dellplain. Welcome and introductions were made. The minutes were approved as corrected.

Bruce reports that a few people have expressed interest in the Data Base manager position (voluntary) and he and Phil are talking to them. Phil offered an information flow analysis to help define responsibilities. The possibility of adding a membership chairman was also discussed.

Martin Westerman introduced Bill Reiswig of Sustainable West Seattle. Bill advocates that we bring more local resources together to save energy and resources. They will have a festival May 3rd at the Farmers Market. In addition we are invited to visit their website www.sustainablewestseattle.org and their meetings the third Tuesday of the week at Camp Long.

Our Community information meeting will be February 18, 2009 at the Fauntleroy Community Church at 6:30. Board members are asked to arrive early to help set up. Phil has a layout of the tables for schoolhouse update, emergency preparedness, ferry dock expansion, landslide awareness, traffic, Rapid Ride, and raccoon control. Phil will be the M.C. of the program.

Gary Dawson reports that a Plan C is being prepared by ferry patrons unhappy with the official ferry future plans; A and B.

Kevin Wooley of the FSCA reports that they have signed a purchase and sale agreement with the Seattle School Board. There is a pending lawsuit by the Save Our Schools organization holding it up. The hearing will be in April. They are also working on a maintenance plan and trying to buy more playground space.

Lynn Olson reports that Abbondonza has declined our invitation to participate in this year’s annual meeting and food fest. All the other local vendors will be there. It will be publicized with A-boards and a flyer. We expect it will be a “no waste” event.

Nominations are open for The Fauntleroy Community Association Board. Brent Spraker, a long time Fauntleroy resident, has expressed interest.

The Fall Festival has held some successful fundraisers so far this year.

Vlad reports from the SW District council that the budget of the Dept of Neighborhoods is not being cut. The way finding project is funded. Community directional signs will in place soon.

The Treasurers report was sent by e-mail. There has been little financial activity so far this year. Annual dues are due in March.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm by Bruce Butterfield.
