Business Meeting Minutes

Fauntleroy Community Association Minutes
January 8, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 by President Bruce Butterfield. In attendance were Martha Callard, Benjamin Kinlow from the Seattle Police Department, Ann Dunbar, Gary Dawson, Phil Sweetland, Vlad Oustimovitch, Stan Lock, Susan Lantz-Dey and Kathleen Dellplain. Introductions were made, and the minutes of the November meeting were accepted.

Benjamin Kinlow from the Seattle Police Department spoke about the SPD newsletter distribution. It now goes out by e-mail and they would like to increase their distribution list. He also reports that the detectives have moved into the precinct building now and that has enhanced burglary investigations. Speaking of burglary, anyone wanting to set up a block watch please call him at 206 684 7724.

The Fauntleroy Community Association Annual Meeting and Food Fest will be March 18, 2008. Phil Sweetland led the participants designing the layout for the vendors and community service groups. Nominations are still open for a master of ceremonies.

Susan Lantz-Dey gave us a preview of the Rapid Ride presentation. Rapid Ride will be a special line from Downtown to West Seattle probably ending at the Fauntleroy business triangle. A complete presentation will be given at a special open house meeting January 24th at 5:30 to 8:30 at the Hall at Fauntleroy. Everyone is encouraged to attend and see Metro’s full proposal. This service should be ready by 2011.

Stan Lock presented information about the Neighborhood Matching Funds program. There are funding programs for all sorts of neighborhood projects. Please contact Stan Lock at stan.lock@seattle.gov for information and assistance.

Stan Lock polled the FCA to see if there were any objections to the possible North Highline annexation. There were none. He also asked about FCA concerns about the fate of the Fauntleroy School building. The Fauntleroy Community Association and the whole community are extremely concerned. The loss of the building and the day care would cut part of the heart out of our neighborhood. Opposition to the sale of the Fauntleroy School campus is very high.

Friends of Fauntleroy – Fauntleroy Church wants to put together a video documentary of the Fauntleroy community. They have applied for a small and simple grant from the city. An endorsement letter was requested. The request was approved.

Vlad Oustimovitch reports that the SW District Council did not meet last month. A meeting with the Delridge Community Council is scheduled soon for the stakeholders group on the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

The complete treasurer’s report was sent by e-mail. Phil Sweetland reports that we ended the year with a positive cash flow. We need to start planning next year’s budget soon.

Gary Dawson reports that Washington State Ferries have put all plans on hold until the steel electric ferry replacement plans are prepared. The Vashon run will be running with two boats while the Quinalt* is being repaired. The King County Ferry district has their plan for passenger only ferries online.

Martha Callard reports that the newsletter is nearly ready for printing. She requested that neighborhood news be submitted to her at News@Fauntleroy.net . A flyer for the Food Fest will be handed out at the Rapid Ride open house on January 24th.

The meeting was adjorned at 9:15 by President, Bruce Butterfield.

Respectfully submitted by Kathleen Dellplain, secretary.
