Meeting Minutes
FAUNTLEROY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Gary Dawson, Bruce Butterfield, Lynn Sealey, Phil Sweetland, Kim Suyama, Dot Rohan and Kirk Hopkins. F.C.A. MEMBERS PRESENT: Martha Callard. F.C.A. STAFF MEMBER PRESENT: Lynn Olson. 1. MINUTES: The minutes from December’s meeting were approved. 2. TREASURER’S REPORT: Kim passed out a report for activity between November 13, 2001 and January 8, 2002 plus a summary report for the year 2001. Notable was a deficit of $867.80 for the calendar year, which prompted discussion. Phil suggested putting the dues at a flat $15 per household. Others felt the amount could be higher (for all we get from a membership). Kim will compile data to compare if we would have been ahead in 2001 with all members paying $15. We also will find out what other community associations dues are. It was decided to put a membership application on the website. We will consider a dues change at another meeting. 3. WATERSHED COUNCIL: Phil said that this group would meet on Thursday, January 10th at the Faunterloy Church. Lynn S. will send a broadcast message to all F.C.A. members regarding this important meeting. 4. SOUTH SOUND FERRY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING: The meeting is still scheduled for February 12th at 3 P.M. at the Hall of Fauntleroy at the Fauntleroy School. Discussions will no doubt center around the Fauntleroy and Southworth dock improvements scheduled for next fall (both projects were funded prior to the passage of I-695). The primary concern is the timing because of spawning salmon in Fauntleroy Creek. Gary noted that because of the good team of people that Judy Pickens put together, a compromise was reached, and the project can begin sooner, probably September 21st. Four weeks is the scheduled dock closure for the work. The Fauntleroy Resolution passed by the City Council two years ago mandated no dock size increase. This project will improve the wing walls (pile driving necessary) and will include dock paving. After hours work may be required and thus a noise variance may have to be issued. Gary announced that his Ferry Advisory Committee term is up sometime this summer, and he is requesting to be replaced as Chair. Chuck Sawyer has been appointed officially. 5. KIOSK AT COVE PARK: Lynn O. talked to Ware Lantz who said he would be happy to do any modifications necessary on the kiosk at Cove Park. It is desired that the kiosk accommodate two or three boxes for the varying sizes of F.C.A. brochures: a Cove Park brochure and other F.C.A. literature. We have $240 to spend on the boxes. Bruce has some product information from his real estate office that he will pass on to Phil and Lynn O. Kirk Hopkins said that Kris Nack could edit and format a brochure on Cove Park and/or Tom Jay’s art if someone else writes it. Lynn O. will talk with Barbara Goldstein of the Arts Commission about possibilities. $500 is available to be spent on brochures. There was discussion about the
2004 construction of a generator location for sewage treatment.
The site that is under consideration is at the northwest corner of
Lincoln Park Way and Murray Avenue near Loman Beach, where there is a sewage
pump station. The conduit would
go from there all the way to the ferry dock, most likely along Fauntleroy
Way. Other location ideas were fielded, as contemplating having
Fauntleroy dug up was not appealing to those present. 6. WEST SEATTLE COMMUNITY
PARTNERSHIP (SAFETY GROUP): As Kirk will be out of town when the next
meeting occurs, Lynn Sealey volunteered to go.
The date is January 15th at 7 P.M. at Arts West. 7. WEBSITE: Kirk asked how much liberty could be granted Kris for web site design changes. The consensus was 100% to allow her freedom to be creative. Our website address is: www.scn.org/neighbors/fauntleroy. 8. SEATTLE COMMUNITY NETWORK: There was discussion, but no resolution, on whether we should contribute $150 as we did last year to the SCN. Kirk will look into what having our own URL would cost. 9. AIRPORT NOISE: Linda Cox telephoned Lynn Sealey today and gave her a good telephone number to call for all aircraft noise complaints. That number is the King County Airport at 206-205-5242. Bruce mentioned that the airport manager, Cynthia Stewart, could possibly come speak to us. Lynn O. will contact Linda and Vlad to come up with some questions for her. 10. NATURE NIGHT: Planning is off the ground, and Phil reported that he hosted a meeting at his house last Saturday. The theme will be “Drama In Our Own Backyard.” March 7th is now the date with the location choice as the Fauntleroy Church. Phil wanted to know what kind of budget he had to work with. Lynn O. will check into “Small Sparks” money of $250 that might be available, and she will check with Stan Lock regarding any grant money that might also be available. She estimated a ballpark figure of $550. Lynn S. will send Lynn O. the spreadsheet from the results of the survey taken after last year’s Nature Night. Martha suggested that Safeway might be willing to donate a food tray. 12. GENERAL MEETING: It was decided that April 16th is a good date for the General Meeting, and that the location should be the Fauntleroy Church. Preliminary topics include a speaker from Elevated Transportation, the elections, airplane noise, and ferry dock construction. 13. CHINESE GARDEN: Martha Callard announced that on February 24th, from 3 to 4 P.M., there would be a Lantern Festival at the Jerry Broke Student Center on the campus of South Seattle Community College to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Community outreach for the building of the gardens would begin soon in anticipation of the 2003 groundbreaking. At 6 and ˝ acres, it will be a cultural and artistic gem for Seattle, and the largest garden outside China. It was decided to add this topic to the General Meeting. 14. NEXT MEETING: The next F.C.A. Board meeting will be on Tuesday, February 12th. The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Lynn B. Sealey, F.C.A. Secretary |
