2004 Letter to Seattle Transportation Department

2002 Traffic Report

Pedestrian Safety Issues on Fauntleroy Avenue

The Fauntleroy Community Association polled the community in 2002 regarding the safety and traffic issues we face. Those issues were broken down into separate parts including this particular problem which is trying to access Lincoln Park as a pedestrian.

Last fall community members met with representatives from the city including Megan Hoyt and Joe Couples from S-DOT and Don Allen and Katie Grey from the Parks Department. Our request was for additional crosswalks at all intersecting streets to Lincoln Park plus a pedestrian activated crosswalk signal at the North end of Lincoln Park by the wading pool area. The city representatives denied our requests secondary to Federal laws, regulations and engineering judgment.

Megan Hoyt did come back to us and said the city would consider 1) a landscaped non-continuous median between the ferry queue lane and the other two travel lanes which will eliminate parking on the west side of the street and may also restrict some parking on the east of the street next to the medians. 2) Explore unique pavement marking of ferry queue lane to better distinguish between the ferry queue lane and the vehicle travel lane. 3) Permanent speed indication signs that display motorist speeds. The city doesn't have funding for any of these options at this time.

The FCA responded that we our still requesting our original plan. The subsequent letter to Megan Hoyt outlines where the FCA is as of now.
